Quando Federica, una regista in difficoltà, decide di fare un film con Elina, l’icona della sua gioventù, sulla storia della vita di quest’ultima, non tutto va secondo i piani. E dato che il cinema è un’illusione, gli attori si rivelano spesso personaggi idolatrati senza ragione. Quando tutto però sembra andare alla malora, quasi magicamente il film prende una nuova forma.

When struggling director Federica makes a film together with Elina, the icon of her youth, about her life, not all goes as planned. In the heat of the moment Federica has a fit of epilepsy that turns her mind inside out. On the set nothing goes as expected, as cinema is an illusion and actors often reveal to be idolized with no reason. When everything seems to blur, almost magically, the movie takes a new shape.

Chiara Malta, nata a Roma, vive stabilmente a Parigi. Nel 2004 il suo primo cortometraggio, “L’Isle”, viene selezionato e premiato in numerosi festival internazionali. “Aspettandoti/En t’attendant” è presentato lo stesso anno alla Mostra internazionale del Nuovo cinema di Pesaro. Nel 2008, il suo primo lungometraggio “Armando e la politica”, viene presentato al 26° Torino film Festival. Nel 2010 realizza due cortometraggi, “J’attends une femme et L’amour à trois”, per il canale televisivo France2.

Chiara Malta was born in Rome and has been living in Paris since 2002. She graduated with a degree in Film, Theater and Media Studies and then attended the Ateliers Varan. Her documentary Armando e la Politica (2008) premiered as the opening film at Turin Film Festival and was aired on ZDF and Arte. She has written and directed many shorts, mixing fiction, animation, and documentary, including L’Isle, J’Attends Une femme, L’Amour à Trois. With her short Les Yeux du Renard, she has started a reflection on childhood, tinted with magical realism. Simple Women, which she developed as a Villa Medici resident artist in Rome, is her first feature film.
