1946. Amerigo ha otto anni e non si è mai allontanato da Napoli e da sua madre Antonietta. Il suo mondo, fatto di strada e povertà, però sta per cambiare. A bordo di uno dei “treni della felicità” passerà l’inverno al nord, dove una giovane donna, Derna, lo accoglierà e si prenderà cura di lui. Accanto a lei Amerigo acquista una consapevolezza che lo porta ad una scelta dolorosa che cambierà per sempre la sua vita. Gli serviranno molti anni per scoprire la verità: chi ti ama non ti trattiene, ma ti lascia andare.

1946. Amerigo is eight years old and has never left Naples and his mother Antonietta. His world, consisting of the streets and poverty, is however about to change. On board one of the  so called ‘trains of happiness’ he will spend the winter in the north, where a young woman, Derna, will take him in and take care of him. Next to her, Amerigo gains an awareness that leads him to a painful choice that will change his life forever. It will take him many years to discover the truth: those who love you do not hold you back, but let you go.

Cristina Comencini (Roma, 1956) Regista, sceneggiatrice, attrice e scrittrice. Esordisce da adolescente nel film del padre, Luigi Comencini, Infanzia, vocazione e prime esperienze di Giacomo Casanova, veneziano. Il debutto alla regia avviene nel 1988 con Zoo, seguito da opere di grande successo come Va’ dove ti porta il cuore (1996), Il più bel giorno della mia vita (2002) e La bestia nel cuore (2005). Con questo ultimo film è stata candidata ai premi Oscar 2006 come Miglior film straniero.
Ha scritto anche romanzi e testi teatrali, tra cui un adattamento de La traviata di Giuseppe Verdi.

Cristina Comencini (Rome, 1956) Director, screenwriter, actress and writer. She made her screen debut as a teenager in Giacomo Casanova: Childhood and adolescence, by her father Luigi Comencini. Her directorial debut came in 1988 with Zoo, followed by highly successful works such as Follow your heart (1996), The best day of my life (2002) and The beast in the heart (2005). With this last film, she was nominated for the 2006 Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film.
She has also written novels and plays, including an adaptation of Giuseppe Verdi’s La traviata.
