Giovanni, regista italiano in ambasce tra una moglie in analisi e un produttore sull’orlo del fallimento, ha smesso di credere nell’avvenire. A immagine del suo protagonista, figura di prua dell’Unità e della sezione comunista del Quarticciolo, vuole “farla finita” col mondo che avanza in direzione ostinata e contraria: la consorte ha deciso di investire su un giovane regista de-genere, la figlia di sposare un uomo (molto) più vecchio di lei, la sua attrice principale di improvvisare l’amore in un racconto politico e poi c’è Netflix che produce cinema in scatola.

Giovanni, an Italian director caught between his wife and a producer on the verge of bankruptcy, has stopped believing in the future. In the image of his protagonist, a figurehead of the newspaper L’Unità and the Communist section of Quarticciolo, he wants to ‘do away’ with the world that is advancing in a stubbornly contrary direction: his spouse has decided to invest in a young director, his daughter to marry a man (much) older than her, his leading actress to improvise love in a political narrative, and then there is Netflix producing canned cinema.

Nanni Moretti (Brunico, 1953) Regista, attore e produttore cinematografico. Tra i migliori registi italiani fin dal suo film d’esordio, “Io sono un autarchico” del 1976, con cui dimostra il suo stile sarcastico nel mettere in scena le frustrazioni della propria generazione, di fronte ai luoghi comuni della società. “Ecce Bombo”, “Caro diario”, “Aprile”, “Il Caimano” sono alcuni dei film più noti. Tra i riconoscimenti ricevuti, la Palma d’oro al Festival di Cannes e il David di Donatello nel 2001 con “La stanza del figlio” recita come attore anche in “Caos Calmo”, film in gara al Festival di Berlino 2008. Nel 2015 concorre a Cannes con il film “Mia madre”. Nel 2021 esce il film “Tre piani”. “Il Sol dell’avvenire” è stato in competizione a Cannes nel 2023.

Among the best Italian directors since his debut film, “Io sono un autarchico” in 1976, with which he demonstrated his sarcastic style in staging the frustrations of his own generation in the face of societal clichés. “Ecce Bombo”, “Caro diario”, “Aprile”, “Il Caimano” are some of his best-known films. Among the awards he has received are the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival and the David di Donatello in 2001 with “La stanza del figlio”, also acting in “Caos Calmo”, a film in competition at the 2008 Berlin Film Festival. In 2015 he competes in Cannes with the film “My Mother”. In 2021 the film “Three Floors” was released. “A Brighter Tomorrow” was in compentition at Cannes in 2023.
