N.I.C.E. Festival USA 202434° EditionNEW YORK CITY / NOV 8-12Casa Italiana Zerilli-MarimòIstituto Italiano di CulturaPHILADELPHIA / DEC 6-8Penn Cinema & Media Studies

I like to think of this new edition of N.I.C.E. USA 2024 as another opportunity to discover the expression of new outlooks, new talents and new possibilities for promotion. As always, N.I.C.E. presents a program of auteurs who have made their mark in the history of debut works, keeping an eye on the future and on a cinema committed to telling the story of ongoing transformations, all through the lens of social and political analysis, research and experimentation with languages.

The films selected include works by outstanding first-time directors.

We begin with Giancarlo Rolandi and Steve Della Casa’s documentary Profondo Argento (Deep Argento), which explores the cinema of master filmmaker Dario Argento. The film was in competition at Sudestival 2024 in Monopoli (Bari), the benchmark of quality Italian cinema in Puglia, which takes place in the beautiful setting of the city of Monopoli. The festival, founded and directed by Michele Suma, is celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2025.

It then moves on to Gloria!, the story of a young woman fighting for her independence. The program also includes Zamora by Neri Marcorè, a drama that explores themes of identity and belonging. The screenings will be hosted by longtime supporters of the Festival, such as Casa Italiana Zerilli-Marimò and the Italian Cultural Institute of New York, with support from the Consulate General of Italy and Luce Cinecittà.

Enjoy the shows!
