Io Capitano racconta il viaggio avventuroso di due giovani, Seydou e Moussa, che lasciano Dakar per raggiungere l’Europa. Un’Odissea contemporanea attraverso le insidie del deserto, gli orrori dei centri di detenzione in Libia e i pericoli del mare.

Io Capitano tells the story of the adventurous journey of Seydou and Moussa, two young men who leave Dakar to make their way to Europe. A contemporary Odyssey through the dangers of the desert, the horrors of the detention centers in Libya and the perils of the sea.

Matteo Garrone (Roma, 1968) regista, sceneggiatore e produttore cinematografico italiano. Esordisce alla regia nel 1998 con il film Terra di mezzo ma la vera consacrazione di pubblico e critica la ottiene nel 2008 grazie a Gomorra, trasposizione dell’omonimo romanzo di Roberto Saviano. Il film vince Grand Prix Speciale della Giuria al Festival di Cannes. Io capitano è il suo undicesimo lungometraggio. Il film ha vinto il Leone d’argento per la miglior regia alla 80ª Mostra internazionale d’arte cinematografica di Venezia ed è stato candidato all’Oscar come miglior film straniero.

Matteo Garrone (Rome, 1968) is an Italian film director, screenwriter and producer. He made his directorial debut in 1998 with the film Terra di mezzo, but his real breakthrough with audiences and critics came in 2008 with Gomorrah, an adaptation of Roberto Saviano’s novel of the same name. The film won the Jury’s Special Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival. Io capitano is his eleventh feature film. The film won the Silver Lion for Best Director at the 80th Venice International Film Festival and was nominated for an Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film.
